Welcome to the Meridian Library Teen Blog

First, I'd like to introduce myself...
My name is Dominique and I am the new Teen Librarian. Yes, that's me!
Besides working at the library, I am a music photographer and take pictures of local bands. I am working on my Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at BSU. As you can imagine, I don't have a lot of time to read books for pleasure, textbooks are currently the only books I get to read. But if I have some spare time I like to read non-fiction books, such as biographies and true crime books. I love music and currently my favorite bands are: The Doors, Boards of Canada, and IQEQ.

I am now in charge of Teen Programs here at the Library and am excited to welcome all teens to our library. Some might know me from the bookmobile, I used to work there before I took this job. O.K. enough about me - I would like to get to know more about you guys.

So, join the blog and tell me something about yourself. Share as little or as much as you like about yourself. This is going to be a fun weekly blog - feel free to participate in our weekly discussions, surveys, and contests.

The only rules on here are simple and everyone has to follow them in order to participate in this blog. Follow the rules and everyone will have a blast!

  • NO PROFANITY
  • DO NOT DISRESPECT OTHER BLOGGERS
  • DO NOT POST ANYTHING THAT IS OFFENSIVE TO OTHERS
  • NO CRUDE/INAPPROPRIATE COMMENTS

Ok, here is the scoop...I will be posting a question each week for you and opening it up for discussion. Once a month there will be a special post or activity. You get involved - we will do more! What would you like? Contests? Prizes?? So, let's have fun and blog!

Look for the first post.

Dominique :-)

  3. I was just wondering if there is anywhere we can post good books or look at book reviews from other teens. I LOVE reading but it seems like every other book I pick up has something innappropriate in it. Thanks this is great i love the Meridian Library!!!

  4. Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your input. Yes, there will be online book reviews in the future - just waiting to get more teens involved so we have a great variety. I totally know what you mean by the "inappropriateness" in books. I am currently trying to choose a book for the next teen book club...there are so many great books out there but I have to eliminate most of them because of their "inappropriateness". Too bad! I am currently reading "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian" - love the dry humor, love the author's writing style, but it is definitely not appropriate for the upcoming teen book club. :( Personally, I can deal with some of the "inappropriateness" but I am well aware that everyone has a different tolerance level.
BUT...There is going to be a Teen Chat-n-Chew program June 18th from 1-2 p.m. - teens will chat about books they liked, and books they would like to read. It will be my first Chat-n-Chew, so I don't know what to expect but I am sure we will be inspired...
Keep up the blogging! Lovin' it! :)

  5. I had to read "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian," for school. and yeah i agree. i totally loved it, but not exactly the best choice for the club. Also, isnt the book club meetings on Wednesday night? do you think for the summer you could move it to some other time, and day? with us not being in school and all i think it would be easier for alot of us. i've wanted to come to the club for a while but i'm busy wednesday nights.. just something to think about... Also, try reading the Great Gatsby.. it's amazing...
    -thanks

Welcome. I take photos of local, national and some international bands. I love candid shots during concerts, but I also do promo shots for bands. What kind of photography are you in to?

  11. Hi there. My name's Ashley. This blog sounds pretty fun to me. If anyone has any book suggestions for me, I'd love some! I'm currently reading "Everlost", which is REALLY good. I just finished Goddess of Yesterday (a MUST for anyone into Greek mythology or Trojan war) and Wintergirls, which I saw YOU were reading, Dominque. How do you like it? I cried...espeically when Cassie came to Lia in the hotel room.

  18. Ashley,
Welcome to the blog. Please, join us for the chat-n-chew next Thursday. We discuss books and you might get some great suggestions/ideas on what to read next. I just finished "13 Reasons Why" - that one was a serious topic, sad and some parts were chilling. The book is definitely a young adult book and is full of very heavy topics. I personally liked it but would not recommend it to any one under 16. I feel that "Wintergirls" is heading the same direction, heavy topics - I am currently listening to the Book on CD, and am into the 2nd CD and got somewhat bored, so I started "Hunger Games" - seems to be interesting. It reminds me of another book that I read few years ago "The house of the Scorpion".
Last weekend I finished a quick read "The House on Mango Street" - a 9th grad level book. Well, so much on what I am reading. The more teens we have on Thursday @ the Chat-n-Chew the better the recommendations...so spread the word.
    Peace,
    Dominique
